Andy Prosser led the U17 MPS Knights to a repeat success at Lancaster in a thrilling weekend for the team.  After winning their semi-final against FC Blazers on PK’s after regulation ended in a 4-4 tie, the team went on to win the Final against Crusaders United 2-1 in OT.  Coach Prosser said,"It was a tremendously exciting weekend for the team.  We never gave up and had to score late goals in both games to get to extra-time.  There is so much heart and character in this group and I could not be any more proud of them".

James Hamblin, who saw the U18 Renegades lose narrowly in the semi-finals, went one better with a win over FC Stars in the U15 Final.  The team beat NEFC in the semi-finals and overcame the Stars in PK’s to also notch their second consecutive State title.  "We were forced to dig deep in both games this weekend, so was delighted that the girls showed courage and resilience to win the final." said Coach Hamblin.

The U15 Bulldogs, led by Tim Mason, finally broke their duck beating NEFC 3-0 in the Final.  Having finishing beaten finalists at both U13 and U14, the Bulldogs showed quality all weekend beating SF Vikings 2-1 in the semi-finals and running out convincing 3-0 winners in the final.  Coach Mason said "The boys were up for this after being narrowly beaten the last 2 years.  We were excellent all weekend and am very happy for the players".

Congratulations are also in order for the U17 Renegades who were beaten finalists at the U17 girls level, and for the teams who made it to the semi-finals – U18 Renegades, U13 Knights and U16 Bulldogs.

In Maine, MCU Portland Phoenix added 4 more State titles to their trophy cabinet winning with the U12 and U13 Girls and the U15 and U17 Boys.  General Manager, Paul Baber said, "We are very proud of all the teams that competed and it is a tremendous achievement for these 4 teams to advance to Regionals in Rhode Island to represent the state of Maine."

In New Hampshire, the NHPSA Classics won 5 State championships at the U12 girls level, and 4 championships on the boys side at the the U12, U13, U16 and U18 age levels.  The most exciting final came with the U12 girls who found themselves 2-0 down in OT and came back to win 3-2, scoring 3 unanswered goals in 8 minutes.  Mark McDevitt, the assistant coach at Boston College and the Head Coach of the U12 girls team said "It was a very exciting game and the girls showed a huge amount of character to come back from 2 goals down with very little time left.  We are looking forward to getting to Regionals now."

In other events the MPS U20 boys have gotten off to a flying start winning both games this weekend 2-0 and 2-1.  This puts them in an excellent position to go on and advanceto the Super-20 National Finals which will be held at the IMG Academy in Bradenton.  Players from the MPS Boston and South regions came together to out in 2 outstanding performances against very strong opposition.

At the PDL level, both the GPS Portland Phoenix and the Ocean City Nor’easters both won over the weekend also.  Both teams are made up of U23 players and are comprised of top collegiate players.  The Nor’easters were very unlucky to lose to MLS opposition in the Philadelphia Union midweek in the US Open Cup and rebounded with a 4-3 against Westchester Flames to remain unbeaten in league play and GPS Portland Phoenix ran out 1-0 winners against Seacoast United Phantoms to sit joint top of the table.

The Nor’easters (who are managed by GPS affiliate Jersey Premier Soccer) defeated the Pittsburgh Riverhounds 1-0 with a 68th minute goal from Ken Tribbet. The Nor’easters put in a solid defensive display to give the club their fifth victory against a professional outfit. The result has set up a 3rd round tie against the Philadelphia Union which has been controversially scheduled to be played at the MLS side’s PPL Stadium. The controversy stems from the fact the field at Carey Stadium is considered too short by USSF, resulting in the game being scheduled at the Union’s PPL Stadium in Philadelphia.
 
“I contacted [USSF] less than 12 hours after the Round 3 announcement had been made,” said General Manager Neil Holloway. “They had an opportunity to overturn it, but they chose not to.” If USSF is trying to grow the game, having a game like this in Ocean City would be a tremendous event. Financially-speaking, it could set our club’s budget for the next three to four years. However, if we have to travel to Philadelphia and we don’t get a percentage of the gate, or anything.”
 
 
 

GPS Portland Phoenix lost their 2nd round tie to the Rochester Rhinos 1-0 with the only goal of the game coming in the 65th minute. The Phoenix were unlucky on a few occasions with the ball being cleared off the line from a corner and the Rhinos keeper making a good save from a free kick to deny Emmanuel Appiah equalizing in the last minute. 

 

 

 
“We are eternally proud of the boys for their efforts in Rochester. To outperform a team that's been together since February, have arguably more collective experience and further to this are professional players, is an absolutely outstanding feat, said Phoenix Head Coach Ally Bain. “We have been together for 3 weeks, and the bond and unity we have shown has been especially  pleasing as a coach. Im sure that after this performance there will be a number of USL teams lining up to take a look at some of our players, which is the ultimate goal for the team. We move on from this game with a match against Western MA Pioneers tomorrow night, so getting back to business in the PDL is our new focus.”

GPS Portland Phoenix goes into the 2nd round game full of confidence after defeating Mass Premier Soccer 2-0. They face a Rhinos side have been in a poor run of form with a record of 1-5-1.

“It’s been a fantastic start to the season for the team, undefeated in 3 games, with 3 solid performances so far”, said Phoenix Head Coach Ally Bain. “We’ve worked hard to build a solid foundation for all the players to buy into, because our time together has been relatively short. We go into tomorrow night’s game with no fear, and will look to work hard for each other from start to finish.

The Phoenix will travel to Rochester for the 2nd round game which will be played Tuesday May 20th, at Sahlen’s Stadium Rochester, 8pm kick off.

The Ocean City Nor’easters have been rewarded with a home tie against the Pittsburgh Riverhounds after progressing to the 2nd round with a 2-0 victory over the New York Red Bulls U23’s. Pittsburg advanced to the 2nd round with a 5-4 penalty shootout win over RDW Ardia after the game had finished 1-1.

“First of all it was great to get a win in the cup competition and go into the next round. We played fantastically and this is the start of a great 2013″ said Head Coach Tim Oswald. “We look forward to welcoming the Pittsburgh Riverhounds to Ocean City in the next round.”

The Ocean City Nor’easters will now host the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of USL Pro. The game will be played at Carey Stadium on Tuesday May 21st with a 7:30pm kick off.

MPS qualified for the 2013 Open Cup as one of the eight amateur teams and are the first Massachusetts team to qualify in five years. MPS defeated Newtown Pride FC (Connecticut), 6-0 to advance to the Open Cup proper.

“Playing in games like this brings out the best in our squad,” said Head Coach Dan MacGregor. “We’re deep, players 1 through 20 are capable of playing really great soccer. I think we have a great shot against any PDL team, or any team in the next round. We’re basically a PDL team but a little older and I think we have every chance to go on in this tournament.”

MPS will await the draw of the US Open Cup and are also looking forward to their upcoming US Amateur Open Cup Region I Qualifying Final against New Jersey side Icon FC. The winner of that match will book a trip to San Antonio for the National Finals.

Mass Premier becomes the first Massachusetts-based USASA club to qualify for the Open Cup since Emigrantes Das Ilhas in 2009. The only other club from the state to qualify in the Modern Professional Era was Boston Olympiakos in 2008.

The first round draw has produced an all GPS tie with The MPS Open team facing GPS Portland Phoenix. The game will be played at Deering High School, Portland on May 14th at 8pm.

Waltham, 29th April, 2013; Global Premier Soccer (GPS) and Milan Boston have announced a partnership that will provide Milan Boston with all the benefits of becoming part of the GPS network of clubs.  Milan Boston will be known as GPS Milan Boston for the 2013-2014 soccer season and beyond.

GPS, who currently operate youth soccer programs in 10 states, has become a leading source of US Youth National team players in recent years with two GPS players currently in the U-15 National team and three players developed by GPS selected to the US U-17 Residency program.

Milan Boston have been a leading club in Massachusetts for over 20 years developing  players through high level coaching and a European methodology that was first tied to Inter Milan and most recently coming from AC Milan.  The multi-faceted agreement will include access to the GPS curriculum for Milan Boston coaches and access to additional development and college showcase opportunities for Milan players.

FC America star Tommy Redding was in the thick of the action as the US U17 National Team took all three points against Haiti in a World Cup Qualifier. Tommy, wearing #4, started the game at center-back and was instrumental in the team conceding no goals. The final score was Haiti 0-3 USA.

The game was televised live on Fox Soccer Channel, highlights of which can be viewed HERE.

 

 
During a recent USMNT camp Said played a staring role in a friendly game versus the BU15 National Team by assisting the winning goal in a 2-1 win. Pablo Palaez was the scorer after receiving a fantastic diagonal pass from Said. Much of the build up to the goal came thanks to Said’s composure on the ball in the center of the field, and vision to pick out Palaez’s run down the side.

“Its not the first time a NHPSA Classics player has experienced National Team exposure but he is easily the most technical player we have ever had,” the words of former Classics President and current BU16 coach Jay Joseph.

Former MPS Premier Director Philip Mitchell will return to Global Premier Soccer, taking up the role of Director of Recruiting and International Projects.

Phil, who previously spent 2 years as Premier Team Director in Massachusetts, is now based in the Ireland and will be overseeing the recruitment of new coaches coming from the UK and Ireland. Having previously made the move from Northern Ireland to the US, Phil knows the qualities and characteristics required of a GPS coach. 

‘We are privileged to have Philip Mitchell working with the club again,’ said GPS General Manager Joe Bradley. ‘Phil’s previous experience, combined with his soccer and business acumen, which is second to none, will provide GPS with the leadership necessary to continue to acquire high quality staff.’

“Naturally, this is an exciting position, in that it allows me to continue my special relationship with Global Premier Soccer,’ explained Phil. ‘The role goes beyond the obvious of recruiting new talent. The U16 Girls were crowned champions, with the U12 Girls unlucky to suffer defeat in the final.

The U12 and U16 teams were in Kansas City representing Global Premier Soccer as a result of the success they enjoyed competing within the Northeast Regional Futsal Championships.

After winning their final two group games to advance to the final, the U16s faced off against a strong PASA team, whom had beaten them earlier in the competition. However, having improved with each game, the U16s were able to emerge victorious the second time around, via Penalty Kicks after a hard fought final.

The U12 girls also performed admirably and were unlucky to suffer defeat in the final, having won every previous game.

“We would like to congratulate all the girls who were excellent in representing Global Premier Soccer in Kansas City this past weekend,” said GPS Director of Coaching, Peter Bradley. “Futsal has been a hugely successful addition to our curriculum and competitive calendar and it is pleasing to see the technical ability our players are exhibiting to compete at such a high level.”

Orlando, 31st December 2012;  Global Premier Soccer and AS Roma celebrated the next stage of their International partnership by hosting an event at ESPN Wide World of Sports for 24 players from the AS Roma Academy program based in Florida.

The players participated in an on field session in-between the Giallorossi’s winter training workouts and, in addition, were given VIP seating to view the afternoon first team practice session and priority access to get photos and autographs both prior and post session.  The travelling AS Roma first team party also presented the players with club gift-bags as part of the experience.

“As we continue to build on our international partnership with AS Roma, we were delighted to bring the leading U11 and U12 players in the state to participate in an event where they were given the opportunity to rub shoulders with the current first team squad and coaching staff,” said FPS General Manager Graham Munro.  “We would like to take this opportunity to thank the AS Roma party for their hospitality at the base of their winter training camp.”

The 24 players were selected from a series of player identification clinics where the GPS AS Roma Academy (Florida) staff evaluated over 120 players from Jacksonville, Orlando, Miami, Ft Lauderdale, Fort Myers and other areas across the state.

The players also featured in an interview for AS Roma TV and have appeared in pictures on the AS Roma official website and official AS Roma Twitter feed.

Over Thanksgiving players were brought together from NHPSA, Mass Premier Soccer (MPS), New York Premier Soccer (NYPS), Vermont Premier Soccer (VPS) and Maine Premier Soccer franchises and created the first GPS teams.

“The GPS teams will bring players together from across the GPS states and provide a very high level of training and playing competition,” said GPS Director of Coaching Peter Bradley.
 
Over the Thanksgiving Weekend, the MPS Showcase Tournament hosted the GPS teams whose debut was very promising. On the boys side, the U11 GPS Elite and U12 GPS Elite teams won their bracket, and the U12 GPS Select team put in a good performance in the final. For the girl’s division, the U13 GPS Elite team also won the top bracket.
 
“It was a good showing and a very promising start for the GPS teams, and we are very proud of all the teams who
 

competed and played well during the tournament,” said Bradley. “The successes seen at the MPS Thanksgiving Tournament are very encouraging and we will be keen to see how this program develops further.”

Ocean City, NJ, November 27th 2012; Jersey Premier Soccer is excited to announce the launch of the Jersey Premier Futsal League Winter 2013 season. Registrations will begin the week of 26th November but take a moment to look over the new and exciting program.
 
League affiliation
Jersey Premier Futsal League is fully sanctioned by the United States Futsal Federation.

Southern NJ State Cup
Jersey Premier Futsal League will host the Southern New Jersey State Cup (sanctioned by USFF) taking place during the Martin Luther King weekend (January 19th & 20th). All Jersey Premier Futsal League teams will be invited to participate in this State Cup event, which will also be open to other affiliated futsal teams and league in southern NJ. The winners of the Southern New Jersey State Cup will be invited and guaranteed a spot in the Northeast Futsal Regional event in Wildwood, NJ, at a discounted rate.

Regional Event

Age Groups
Jersey Premier Futsal League anticipates forming boys and girls leagues at each age group u9 – u18. However, some age groups may be combined depending on registration. For example: u9 & u10, u11 & u12, u13 & u14, high school ages combined. The League Director will use discretion to create the most competitive game and Jersey Premier Futsal League will do its best to accommodate team requests.

12 games over the course of 6 weekends (2 per day)

For insurance and liability purposes, the Jersey Premier Futsal League has adopted and will adhere to a strict No Card-No Play policy.

Free Coaches Clinic & Mandatory Team Check-In
Jersey Premier Futsal League and USFF will hold a free coaches clinic along with a mandatory team check in for all teams participating in the League. The clinic will highlight the most important aspects of training and coaching Futsal at the youth level and will provide coaches with useful “hands-on” information about running basic Futsal training sessions. During the team check in a representative from each team must present all player and coach cards, as well as the completed roster from USFF, and pay the referee fees.

Referee fee: $120 paid separately by check made out to “cash”, or paid in cash.
Teams will not be permitted to play in the League without attending the check in.

High Referee Standards – To help ensure a high standard of League officiating, every referee officiating at the Jersey Premier Futsal League will participate in a certification course taught by a US Futsal Referee Instructor.
Free Coaches Clinic – Prior to the start of the 2013 season, the Jersey Premier Futsal League will partner with US Futsal to provide each participating coach with the opportunity to attend a free introductory coaching clinic. The clinic will highlight the most important aspects of training and coaching Futsal at the youth level and will provide coaches with useful “hands-on” information about running basic Futsal training sessions.
Unique Game Format – Games will be 30 minutes long, but each will be divided in two 15-minute halves. There will be a 2-minute period in between halves for bench switching and players’ hydration. There will also be a 3-minute period in between games to allow for the transition of teams leaving and arriving at the gym. Referees will keep the clocks running so each game will start and stop on time.
Each team will play two games per day to maximize game time and participation, and ensure efficient scheduling.

Waltham, MA. 26th November 2012; Mass Premier Soccer hosted a hugely successful Thanksgiving Showcase tournament in Massachusetts over the holiday weekend.

Celebrating its fourth year the Thanksgiving Showcase featured 337 teams and had over 200 college coaches in attendance with full 80 minute games for all showcase brackets.  The action took place across 44 fields and, for the first team, featured sections for U10-U14 teams.

Participating in the action were 47 State Champions, 22 on the boys side and 25 girls champions, and one Regional Champion. The Showcase included teams from all over New England and abroad, with 9 foreign teams from Canada to Ghana in attendance.

‘We are very proud to complete another successful Thanksgiving College Showcase’, said MPS Tournament Director James Hamblin. ‘The tournament has risen to become one of the most attended showcase events on the East Coast, with this weekend seeing some fantastic soccer across outstanding facilities.  We are delighted to add U10 to U14 brackets to provide a perfect wrap up to the fall outdoor season.’

A hard fort two legs in the NASL Finals saw the Rowdies finish on top after a 3-2 penalty shoot-out win.

Tampa Bay lost the first leg 2-0 in Minnesota, but came back strong in the second leg with a 3-1 victory which took the game to extra time. The Rowdies where a man down in extra time but no goals meant the title needed to be decided by penalties. Rowdies keeper, Jeff Attinella made 3 saves in a thrilling shoot-out to crown the Rowdies 2012 NASL Super Bowl Champions.

“Well done to all the players and coaches at the Rowdies for a great victory,” said GPS General Manager Joe Bradley. “They have had a successful season and deserve to be the 2012 NASL champions. To comeback from two goals down to win shows great heart and desire, they should be very proud.”

The Rowdies and GPS have had a partnership since 2010, with the GPS PDL team, the Portland Phoenix being the reserve team and collegiate player feeder club for the Tampa Bay Rowdies.

The Rowdies 3-1 win in the second leg of the NASL Soccer Bowl Finals extended their unbeaten streak at home to 12, including six wins. The 2012 title is the second time the Rowdies have been crowned the champions of the NASL Soccer Bowl, with the first one coming in 1975 with a 2-0 victory over the Portland Timbers. The team capped off an amazing season where they finished unbeaten in 19 of their last 21 games, ending with a championship performance on Saturday night in this thrilling second leg.
"We've had adversity throughout different times of the season and the players were able to overcome it once again," said Rowdies Head Coach Ricky Hill. "I've always told the players to keep a strong mind and to not give up on our style of play no matter what. I couldn't be prouder of the guys for their efforts to overcome both Minnesota's goal, as well as to play with a man down for about 30 minutes."

Geoff Cameron and Graham Zusi started for USA, and Ryan Johnson start for Jamaica. Zusi made an instant impact in his first start for the US National team, hitting the bar with a shot from the edge of the area.

Zusi is a product of FC America’s Academy, who is Florida Premier Soccer’s primary partner in Orlando.  Cameron played under Steve Nicol for the MPS U16 Bulldogs, and  Johnson played for the MPS U18 Bulldogs in 2002 and briefly played for the PDL team, the MPS Cape Cod Crusaders in 2003.

“It was exciting to see, three players with GPS connections playing for their countries and competing on this stage,” said GPS Chief Executive Joe Bradley.
